It is a privilege to be the Head of the Department of Orthopaedics at Government Medical College, Omandurar. From providing basic orthopaedic services in the early days the department has grown manifold to provide advanced customised solutions for complex orthopaedic problems. Within a span of 5 years from moving to the current campus the OP strength has gone up to 450 patients/day.
Infrastructure has been vastly improved since the early days of inception. The department has been able to generate additional income from CMCHIS scheme to improve infrastructure and patient services. On seeing the tremendous growth in patient load and services provided, Govt. of Tamil Nadu through TNHSP has sanctioned an amount of Rs. Three crores seventy-one lakhs to purchase advanced equipment and instruments exclusively to our department in 2024. This is a testimonial to the exceptional services provided by us.
Our department has an enthusiastic, eager and research-oriented faculty with abundant clinical experience. Each faculty handle various sub-specialities of orthopaedics thus providing a diverse range of treatment options and one stop solution for patients seeking orthopaedic treatment.
We mould 100 MBBS graduates per year who fly out with adequate knowledge in orthopaedics as mandated by NMC. Ours is a recognised post-graduate institution now, showcasing the extensive services provided by us in such a short span of time. We admit 3 MS Ortho post-graduates per year with the first batch about to complete very shortly.
We have ventured into research in a big way. Currently we have signed MOU with top notch technical institutions to provide technical knowledge in designing implants for various needs. Anna University, TANCAM, CIPET are institutions to name a few. We are into designing customised 3D printed implants for major orthopaedic oncologic cases. We are in the process of establishing a centre for 3D printing in Orthopaedics in our centre.
Apart from all these works, our heart lies in providing wholesome, caring and expert treatment to patients seeking our help in restoring their livelihood.
